San Juan Islands Museum of Art

Join teaching artists Amy Plant and Alice Hibberd for a free, hands-on workshop inspired by the work of Alison Stigora, an artist who creates worlds simultaneously vast and intimate. Adults and youth will view her installation "Constellation”, then work together outside the San Juan Islands Museum of Art to wrap, weave, and create an experimental collective installation from natural materials brought from their own homes and backyards. RSVP is required, and space is limited to 10 adults and 10 youth. Adults may register on their own, or register with children ages 8-16. Youth ages 8 and older may attend without being accompanied by an adult. Join the San Juan Islands Museum of Art for a free, hands-on Family Art Days class inspired by artist Joseph Cornell's Shadow Memory Boxes, or "Poetic Theaters" of story. Led by local artist Amy Plant, children and their accompanying adult will make a miniature story scene inside a small box frame using decoupage and assemblage with found objects. A treasure trove of materials will be provided, and families are welcome to bring small items from home, such as photos, maps, tickets, book pages, shells, board game pieces, buttons, and tiny toys. The class is free for children ages 5 and up with a supervising adult, and preregistration is encouraged as space is limited.
